Arizona jobs report: 30,900 jobs added in September, unemployment uptick

Arizona saw a slight increase in it's unemployment rate, while many sectors saw jobs added, according to new data from the Arizona Commerce Authority.

The unemployment rate is at 4%, which is up from 3.8% in August. However, 30,900 not-seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs were added in September month-over-month, and 67,300 year-over-year.

The three most successful sectors were government, private education and health services, and professional and business services. Government added 16,300 jobs, 9,400 jobs were added in private education and health services, and professional and business services saw a gain of 2,400 jobs.

With the start of the school year, 9,400 jobs of the 16,300 in government were in local government education.

In terms of losses, the information sector lost 2,000 jobs, construction lost 1,300 jobs, and natural resources and mining lost 100 jobs.

The labor force overall increased by 0.3% month-over-month, and by 2% year-over-year, which equates to 71,678 individuals.
