Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kelli Ward today urged President Trump to overturn the Obama-Flake “policy of appeasement” toward Cuba before the country becomes “another Venezuela.”
“Most Republicans in Congress support the embargo but there is one prominent standout: Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona who has emerged as the Castro Gang’s number one defender in Congress,” Ward said in a press statement.
Ward, a Lake Havasu City physician challenging Flake for reelection noted that “the Cuban regime has publicly displayed acts that violate natural human and political rights including intense policies against women such as forced abortions.”
“The 1992 Cuban Democracy Act and the Helms-Burton Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act of 1996 brought forth conditions that Cuba must meet in order for the embargo to be lifted including commitment to free and fair elections, freedom of press, legalization of all political activity, and respect for internationally recognized human rights”, Ward said. “And that hasn’t happened.”
“The Obama Administration enacted policies that loosened the Cuba embargo with Senator Jeff Flake’s enthusiastic support,” Ward noted, “sending the message that the United States is not only ready to recognize the Socialist-Communist regime, but that we are also open to negotiating with the dictatorial heads of state, undercutting traditional values held by the Cuban people as well as by the people of the United States.”
Dr. Kelli Ward is an osteopathic physician who was elected twice to the Arizona Senate and held John McCain to just 51 percent of the vote in the 2016 U.S. Senate primary. Public polling shows her in a dead heat with Senator Flake in the 2018 primary matchup. Her website is www.kelliward.com
